State Park Speedway held a preseason meeting Thursday night and announced to drivers and teams that this will be the final year the Wimmer Family will be running the racetrack.  While this track and racing have always been incredibly important to Ron and Scott Wimmer and their families, it is time to end their chapter at State Park Speedway.

“It was an incredibly tough decision, but at this time it is what is best for our family,” said Scott Wimmer.  “It was not a choice we took lightly at all and we hope all the drivers, crews and fans know that and can understand.”

Ron and Scott Wimmer purchased State Park Speedway in 2009 with the 2010 season being the first to run under their ownership.  Over the past 14 years the track has welcomed hundreds of drivers and thousands of fans.

“It’s been a great experience,” said Ron Wimmer.  “I don’t think people know and understand all the work that goes on behind the scenes, but it has been our privilege to give people a place to race and race fans a place to come for 14 years.  Racing has been a huge part of our lives, dating back to the Larry Detjens days, and to be able to help keep racing alive in our hometown was something special.”

That being said, State Park Speedway is committed to the 2024 season and further committed to making it the best year yet.  The track will feature heightened purses, fan specials and more as the Wimmer’s take a final lap around SPS.

More information will come soon in regards to some of the special events that will take place in the final year.

The Wimmer family thanks everyone for their continued support over the years and looks forward to celebrating State Park Speedway with everyone and saying goodbye throughout this season.
