Wausau, WI- The ‘Stars and Cars’ of the ARCA Midwest Tour have been added to the Saturday Night July 27 portion of the Larry Detjens Memorial at State Park Speedway.  The two-day festival will feature the Big 8 Late Models on Friday night and the Super Late Models of the Midwest Tour will battle for 125 laps on Saturday night, paying tribute to the former Late Model star.  This will mark the 38th annual Larry Detjens Memorial event at the quarter mile paved oval in Central Wisconsin.

Current Midwest Tour point leader Casey Johnson bolted to the victory in the 2018 edition and will lead the charge of Touring Stars against Central Wisconsin’s Best this July.  After rain washed out the annual Tour visit to SPS, discussions had been ongoing to add the Midwest Tour into the weekend activities which includes numerous divisions of racing, a camper village and all around fun at the races remembering one of its fallen heroes.  “Larry was one of my Dad’s first stars in ARTGO, he meant a lot to both of my parents and as kids my brother and I always looked forward to going to the Detjens Memorial, I still have my ticket from 1986.” Stated Midwest Tour owner Gregg McKarns.  “While I am never glad for a rain out like we had in May, I am looking forward to being a part of this great event.”

The 25 car starting field will pay $625 to start and $3,000 to the winner, with provisional starting positions being awarded to State Park regulars, Tour regulars and the most recent Detjens winner not in the field following qualifying, preliminary and last chance events.  For additional information visit www.stateparkspeedway.com.  State Park Speedway is in action this Thursday June 6 with the opening round of the Wisconsin Challenge Series.  The Midwest Tour will return to action of Father’s Day June 16 for a 100 lap event as racing returns to the Milwaukee Mile.  For additional information visit www.midwesttour.racing.
